He is for sure a master of Spanish cinema but not the only one. I understand that Spains wants more Academy awards, but at the same time I feel that other producers and directors should be allowed into the international arena.
There is a great movie called, 7 virgins, it is about the live of two kids in Seville....if you like international films, search for this tittle....you will want to see it.
